Lino Ferreira obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Coimbra in Biotechnology (2003) where he worked with Professor Jonathan Dordick (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA) and Professor Helena Gil (University of Coimbra, Portugal). He did postdoctoral work at INEB (Portugal) and MIT (USA; Robert Langer Lab) in the areas of human embryonic stem cells, photocrosslinkable degradable elastomers, biomedical adhesives, antimicrobial materials, and micro- and nanotechnologies. He joined the Center of Neurosciences and Cell Biology (CNC, University of Coimbra) and Biocant (Innovation Center, Portugal) in October 2007. He has published 40 peer reviewed papers, 11 book chapters, and has 10 issued or pending patents– 5 of which have been licensed to companies in the biomedical industry. He is the director of the Biomaterials and Stem Cell-Based Therapeutics research group at CNC and the CNC coordinator of the MIT-Portugal Program.
